It’s always a good day when a new kosher restaurant opens in town, especially in a neighborhood that’s mostly lacking dietary-friendly food options.
Pita Bar recently debuted at 11 Delancey Street by Chrystie Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, serving classic Israeli dishes like schnitzel, sabichm shakshuka, spicy sausage, kebab and more in perfectly concocted sandwiches.
The menu is relatively limited, which makes things simple and easy to navigate. You can choose to order to fill your pita with salad, roasted tomatoes and fried eggplant, among other options, perhaps alongside herbed French fries, meat cigars or a baked sweet potato.
There is a single dessert option on offer, which makes it an absolute must-try: pita s’mores. In case you were wondering, the treat looks and tastes exactly what it sounds like.
Keep in mind that this is a no-frills, quick-bite kind of stop. There are some tables and counters for customers to sit at but, overall, this isn’t your full-service, white tablecloth kind of eatery—which is totally fine, considering the immense need that the area had for a kosher restaurant serving really good food.
