Perhaps the most well-known kosher food truck in New York, Moshe’s Falafel, first founded in 1981, is set to open a brick-and-mortar destination at 142 West 83rd Street near Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side of Manhattan “by the end of the month,” according to an official spokesperson.
Although news regarding the debut broke a few months ago, with outlets reporting on a possible May opening date, the new eatery is still a work in progress. But things seem to be (finally!) moving: Pretty Kosher can exclusively reveal that Moshe’s Falafel will be bringing one of its food trucks to the Upper West Side tomorrow—on 80th Street and Broadway, right in front of Zabar’s—to start promoting the new area dining destination.
“We’ll be there until the restaurant is ready to go!,” shared the spokesperson.
This will be the company’s third food truck in NYC, with the original one still set up on West 46th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and a second one on 39th Street and Broadway.
Although the menu across all food trucks is relatively limited—the simple falafel sandwich is delicious, as is the hummus platter—the company is looking to “add more” to the restaurant, perhaps peppering the menu with a slew of appetizers and larger dishes that will cater to a sit-in crowd.
A staple of NYC’s kosher culinary scene, Moshe’s Falafel has been around for nearly four decades, the brainchild of Moshe Mizrahi, who was born in Kibbutz Galuyor in Israel and immigrated to New York in the early 1980s.
