It’s been 26 years since Nosh Express first started serving kosher Israeli food—from burgers to salads, shawarma, falafel, soups and more—at its casual digs at its casual Brooklyn digs at 2817 Nostrand Avenue, right off Kings Highway. Unfortunately, the run is now coming to an end: the restaurant will be closing for good this Thursday.
As reported by Great Kosher Restaurants, Nosh Express will continue to fill its school lunch accounts moving forward. A silver lining: younger generation of kosher diners will get to still enjoy the food that has satisfied the neighborhood for nearly three decades.
“It’s been a pleasure serving this beautiful community for over 26 years we regret to inform you that we will be closing our doors at the end of this week,” wrote the Nosh Express team on Instagram. “We’re grateful for your loyalty and trust. Your support has meant everything to us. Thank you for being part of our journey.”
Folks immediately took to the comments section of the post to relate their feelings about the closure, share memories of meals enjoyed on site and mourn the upcoming loss of a neighborhood staple.
“End of an era, best cholent, best employees, let us know where Chico is going please,” one user commented.
“I’ll never forget working there as a teenager!,” another reminisced. “Love you and your parents!! So sorry to hear that you are closing your doors. You are such a big part of that neighborhood! Hands down one of the best chulents.”
Although the restaurant’s owners have not explained the reasons behind the closure, we can only imagine the eatery to have been plagued by the sorts of issues that many other local destinations have to contend with, including high rent prices and the rising costs associated with operating a food-related business.
For what it’s worth, here is to hoping things will change and Nosh Express will make a comeback in the near future.
