Here’s a great way to start off a new month: Safta’s, the relatively new Upper West Side kosher coffee and pastry shop, is giving out free bagels on Tuesday, September 2.

Owner Sonny Gindi took to Instagram to announce the promotion, sparked by customers’ complaints.

“We’ve been listening and learning and taking your feedback and seeing how we can get better as a business, as a brand, as a place that is in your community because ultimately we’re here to serve you,” Gindi says in the video post. “The biggest piece of feedback that we got is that our bagel is not good enough. The truth is, you were right. So, this summer we’ve been practiving, testing and we finally found a recipe that we are proud of.”

To celebrate—and to invite honest feedback on whether the new bagel recipe passes the ultimate New York taste test—Safta’s will be handing out free bagels with cream cheese to the first 100 customers starting at 8am Tuesday, while supplies last.

While you’re there, why not embrace all the other culinary delicacies on Safta’s menu? From a pistachio knafeh halva Greek yogurt bowl to babkas, shakshouka dishes and mezze creations to take home, the offerings run the gamut. After all, if Safta’s is willing to perfect something as sacred as a New York bagel, you can bet the rest of the menu has been given just as much care.
