Mark your calendars: on Sunday, September 21, Adamah—the largest Jewish environmental organization in North America—is inviting New Yorkers to roll up their sleeves and give back to the planet.

The all-day volunteer event, Rooted: A Jewish Day of Service for the Earth, will be part of Climate Week NYC and take place across green spaces throughout the city. Expect everything from trash clean-up and park beautification efforts to planting, painting fences and signs, tending to gardens and more—all carried out by volunteers who care about the earth and the communities rooted in it.

While full details are still in the works, you can sign up right here to get updates as the event gets closer.

Adamah, which formed in 2023 through the merger of similar organizations Hazon and Pearlstone, is all about nurturing the relationship between Jewish life and the natural world. Their work spans everything from farm-based fellowships and retreats to local sustainability projects and educational programs. According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the team is expecting over 1,000 Jewish volunteers to join in this year’s Climate Week effort.

Whether you’re a seasoned community gardener or just looking for a meaningful way to spend a Sunday, this is your chance to make a real, green impact—with your hands in the dirt, your heart in the right place and surrounded by fellow Jews looking to make a difference.
