This fall, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene brings Hannah Senesh’s remarkable story to the stage in a powerful one-woman play. Senesh, a young Jewish woman who escaped Hungary in 1939 for British Mandate Palestine, joined the Haganah—the main Jewish paramilitary organization in the territory from 1920 to 1948—and later volunteered for a daring Special Operations mission to parachute back into Europe to save Jews, including her own mother, from the Holocaust.

The 90-minute production, Hannah Senesh, will run Off-Broadway at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street in Times Square) from October 19 through November 9. Based on Senesh’s own diaries and poems, the play stars Jennifer Apple in the title role.

“Hannah’s story and indomitable spirit, along with the moving diary and poetry that she left behind, serve as an enduring inspiration to people everywhere standing up to the powers of hatred and oppression,” reads the official description of the production.

Hannah Senesh joins two other upcoming Off-Broadway shows centered on the Jewish experience: Marcel on the Train, about famed mime Marcel Marceau, will make its world premiere in February 2026, while Gene & Gilda, which explores the love story between Jewish American actors Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner, will soon conclude its run at 59E59 Theaters on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
