Here’s a rare chance you don’t want to miss: this Sunday, March 23, two teams from the Israel Elite Hockey League will face off at UBS Arena on Long Island—marking the first time professional Israeli hockey teams will play in the U.S.! HC Tel Aviv will take on the Jerusalem Capitals at the home of the NHL’s New York Islanders in a historic matchup that has got everyone talking already.
The arena gates open at 4pm, with the puck dropping at 5pm. Tickets start at $40 plus fees and are available here.
“This is a monumental moment for Israeli hockey,” said Stuart Gourdji, HC Tel Aviv team owner, in an official statement. “We are honored to bring the Jerusalem Capitals and HC Tel Aviv to UBS Arena, showcasing the incredible talent and passion for hockey growing in Israel. It’s a testament to the global reach of our sport and the unity it fosters.”
Beyond the game itself, expect a family-friendly experience packed with activities. Fans can meet the players during a special meet-and-greet session or test their skills at an interactive hockey shooting zone. And yes, there will be plenty of exclusive merch to grab, too.
Food-wide, you will be more than covered. According to an official press release, a lineup of kosher food trucks will be on-site, and kosher food will also be available at the arena’s designated spots: marketplaces in sections 102 and 108, the Dime Club (section 114, Dime Club ticket required) and the Verizon Lounge (VIP pass holders only).
While this matchup is a huge moment for sports fans—a feat of athleticism worth witnessing—it also feels like a celebration of Israel itself, especially in these challenging times. Expect a crowd filled with energy, pride and passion for the game—and for something even bigger than hockey.
