Leave it to Adir Michaeli, the genius pastry chef behind New York favorite kosher Michaeli Bakery, to reinvent the babka—this time, one that stays moist twice as long as the rest.
The chef’s new dark chocolate babka launches this Thursday, November 20, at two Michaeli Bakery locations: 115A Division Street on the Lower East Side and 401 East 90th Street by First Avenue on the Upper East Side.

“[Michaeli] wanted to create a babka that stays moist longer and also has more even distribution of the chocolate filling,” reads the official press release. “Made with dark chocolate ganache and chocolate chips for texture, the dark chocolate babka is rich, decadent, and very moist—Michaeli describes it as a chocolate lover’s babka.”
Priced at $17, the new creation joins the bakery’s already excellent lineup of go-tos: cinnamon, halva, hashachar (dairy-free chocolate spread) and the existing chocolate babka, now renamed nutella babka.
With Thanksgiving and Hanukkah around the corner, we say: get one of each. Perfect as a hostess gift, a treat for your own table or a little holiday indulgence (we promise they are worth every bite).
