This Wednesday, March 25, B’nai B’rith International, one of the oldest Jewish service and advocacy organizations in the world, is hosting a holiday event where attendees will pack Passover care packages filled with essential staples to be delivered to Holocaust survivors in the NYC area. In addition to the mitzvah, guests of PROJECT H.O.P.E will hear Holocaust survivor Noemi Kohn share her story of the war, when she was hidden in a nunnery and an orphanage.
Although B’nai B’rith volunteers in their 20s and 30s will mostly assemble the kosher for Passover boxes, which will feature items provided by Jewish non-profit organization Met Council, others are welcome to join as well by RSVPing to Liz Krebs at ekrebs@bnaibrith.org. The exact location of the event will be shared upon a completed reservation.
Although there are plenty of pre-Passover events to attend all around New York, there is something to be said about paying it forward right before the holiday, especially when it involves the dwindling population of about 14,700 Holocaust survivors that call NYC home, according to the UJA Federation.
Considering that the organization notes that “by 2030, only half of [the roughly 196,000 survivors] alive today will still be with us,” it feels imperative to join B’nai B’rith International this week and participate in such a unique happening.
