Although venturing outside of NYC’s five boroughs doesn’t always lead to worthwhile experiences, this one is an exception to the rule: the Kedem Tasting Room, one of the extremely few kosher wineries in all of New York State, is hosting a unique outdoor market this weekend.
From 10am to 3pm this Sunday, attendees will get to indulge in refreshing sangria, grab bites from a Manischewitz food truck that will be on site, purchase handmade crafts and interact with a variety of other local vendors. What’s more, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Ladies Auxiliary to the Marlboro Hose Company No. 1, who assist the volunteer local firefighters with beverages, food and more.

The tasting room is located at 1519 Route 9W in Marlboro, about 90 minutes north of the city—and this weekend’s market is as good a reason as any to finally make the drive.
The winery itself has roots stretching back to 1848, when the Herzog family began making wine in Czechoslovakia and eventually became the exclusive wine supplier to Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria. After the family fled Europe following World War II and immigrated to the United States, they re-established their winemaking legacy here in the Hudson Valley, building their Marlboro facility in 1983. Today, Kedem’s parent company, Royal Wine Corp., is the largest importer of kosher wine in the country.
The tasting room is open Sunday through Thursday, 11am to 4pm, and admission is free… though we’d wager the sangria this weekend might be reason enough to make it a day trip. How often, after all, do you get to sip your way through an entire wine list without a single kashrut concern?
