When Masuda Omakase first opened inside AO Bowl at 1385 Broadway in Times Square Square less than a year ago, touting itself as the “world’s first kosher hand roll bar,” foodies in New York rejoiced.
Unfortunately, the excitement wasn’t enough to keep the pop-up going: Masuda announced that it will officially close on Sunday, March 31.
“We still will be available for our luxurious at home catering service,” the restaurant wrote in an Instagram post. “We would like to say thank you to everyone for their continued support and ask for you to please stay tuned for our next location coming soon!”
To be clear, as explained on Instagram, the eatery will continue to exist as a catering service—which was, actually, the original iteration of the business when it first launched during the COVID-19 pandemic—and, potentially, a brick-and-mortar at a different location.
When a follower commented “bummed that you are going out of business,” Masuda responded, “we are not going out of business ! This was just a one year pop up. Our catering business is still open.”
According to Yeah That’s Kosher, Masuda will “presumably” re-open in Manhattan as a full-on restaurant in the near future.
