OPA, a new meat-centric kosher Greek restaurant, is gearing up to open on the Bowery in Manhattan later on this summer, as first reported by Yeah That’s Kosher.
A first in the kosher world—there are no similar eateries in New York—OPA will offer a menu filled with shareable dishes (“a Greek version of tapas,” according to Yeah That’s Kosher). A variety of dips, salads, rice, pasta and a “from the open fire” menu section featuring seafood and meat options will define on-site meals.
“The sea bass fillet is accompanied by grilled chard, aubergine puree, and smoked pepper cream and piccata,” reports the outlet. “The rib-eye includes a robusta rib-eye steak with sautéed pickled cabbage and cauliflower cream. The Wagyu stifado features Wagyu striploin glazed with Wagyu jus, served with braised onions, spices and cumin potato emulsion.”
The desserts include classic Greek sweets like the baklava, which we expect to be amazing considering the very essence of the restaurant, alongside creative takes on the traditional.
Lest you worry about the many dairy-based products that Greek cuisine is known for, rest assured that the team behind OPA will be using “plant-based ingredients like coconut milk, almond milk [and more] to recreate those dishes for a kosher meat restaurant,” reports Dani Klein of Yeah That’s Kosher.
Although any kosher restaurant opening news is pretty thrilling to us, there is something about OPA—whether it be its unusual location for a kosher eatery or its unique menu—that has gotten us all giddy with excitement. Bonus points: according to the restaurant’s Instagram account, a second OPA location, this one dairy, will soon land in Miami as well.
