If you’re anything like us, you’ve been spending the last few months infinitely scrolling through your social media feeds, salivating at the mere sight of what has officially become the latest viral culinary trend to capture our collective attention: the Dubai chocolate.
Also known as kunafa chocolate, the dessert involves a milk or dark chocolate bar filled with either a gooey pistachio cream, tahini or a shredded pastry dough.
Although there are now countless versions of the treat, its origins can be traced to Dubai confectionery FIX Dessert Chocolatier. The shop still produces the bars in a variety of different iterations, including the Mind Your Own Buiscoss (lotus cheesecake inside a white chocolate), the Can’t Get Knafeh of It-Hero (knafeh with pistacchio and tahini pasted inside milk chocolate) and the Cereously Chewsy (fudge brownies and cereal stuffed inside milk chocolate).
On this side of the Atlantic, kosher New Yorkers are in luck: there are now a pretty solid number of local shops sell the treat daily. Here is a list:
- – The Boozery at 420 Troy Avenue in Brooklyn (dairy)
- – Oh Nuts at 1503 Avenue J and 4923 13th Avenue in Brooklyn or at 480 Central Avenue in Cedarhurst (parve)
- – Cafe Chocolat at 556 Central Avenue in Cedarhurst (both parve and dairy options)
- – Candylicious NYC at 6352 108th Street in Forest Hills (dairy and parve options)
- – World of Chantilly at 4302 Farragut Road in Brooklyn (parve)
Given the popularity of Dubai chocolate and the ever-changing nature of all kosher businesses, we suggest calling all these destinations in advance if traveling there to snag a specific product.
