Noah Rinsky, the creator of viral social media account @oldwishmen, is launching what is sure to become a go-to Channukah gift this holiday season: The Old Jewish Men’s Guide to Eating, Sleeping and Futzing Around, basically an expanded book version of his hilarious online personality that plays on everyone’s fascination with the likes of Larry David—basically, Jewish men of a certain age.
The handbook is set to drop on September 17 and, to celebrate the occasion, Rinsky is hosting a book party at J. Press, the men’s clothing store at 51 East 44th Street by Grand Central, that same day at 6pm until 8:30pm.
Expect booze and cigars—remember: old Jewish men—plus freshly made halva from Joyva to be served at the launch, where Rinsky is sure to be walking around mingling with guests.
“For whatever reason, we kind of think that these old Jewish men—even the successful ones, like Larry David—make a career out of seemingly doing nothing,” Rinsky said to the Jewish Chronicle when discussing the inspiration behind his book. “Seinfeld is just about four people futzing around. They’re basically just wasting time and having a good time doing it, which Larry David continues to do [in Curb Your Enthusiasm]. It’s kind of this culture of, let’s look at the little things and not bother with the big things.”
Although the theme certainly appeals to the Jewish population as a whole, there is something innately New York about it all as well. A fact that, of course, adds to the appeal of the new tome and Rinsky’s social media accounts, getting us even more giddy with excitement about the drop.
