Osaka Sushi kosher takeout restaurant opens on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Kosher Upper East Siders craving a quick sushi bite can now head to Osaka Sushi at 1165 2nd Avenue by 62nd Street to satisfy their culinary desires.

Now in soft-open mode and offering a limited menu (no tempura or fried rolls just yet), Osaka is a no-frills destination that mainly focuses on takeout options but also boasts a few counter seats for those looking to dine-in.

“There’s been a growing demand for kosher sushi on the Upper East Side, especially with the area’s expanding Jewish community,” owner Jonathan Avraham says to Pretty Kosher. “Affordable kosher takeout options were scarce, so we wanted to fill that gap and offer something unique for the neighborhood.”

Menu-wise, expect classic rolls to share space with special creations like the chaos (spicy kani, avocado and mango topped with seared salmon, sweet sauce and spicy mayo), the ten-piece NYC (salmon, tuna, yellowtail and kani topped with avocado, sweet sauce and spicy mayo) and the TNT (spicy kani and cucumber topped with spicy tuna, jalapeno and wasabi menu).

Appetizers and poke bowls round out the list of offerings.

“The crispy rice is definitely set to become a favorite and our Japanese fries are a must-try,” says Avraham when asked about some standouts. “One personal highlight is the Cajun catch, which is topped with an incredible onion dressed created by our chefs. It’s light, refreshing and complements the dish perfectly.”

The opening of Osaka further cements the Upper East Side’s status as a premier destination for kosher dining.
