The bad news: Thyme & Tonic, the kosher, gluten-free restaurant that opened on 83rd Street and Columbus Avenue in 2020, is officially closing on November 5.

The good news: the Thyme & Tonic team—also behind the Modern Bread & Bagel chain of gluten-free cafes—will replace it with a new Mexican fusion concept that will offer “full sit-down dining with waiter service,” according to YeahThatsKosher.com. While an exact timeline hasn’t been announced, the outlet reports the new restaurant will likely open soon after Thyme & Tonic’s closure.

“After nearly six years of service, we’ll be closing this chapter to make room for something new,” reads a post on Thyme & Tonic’s Instagram account. “We’ve loved hosting you and celebrating with you through every season, every menu and every pop-up concept that kept things fresh and fun.”

Fans quickly flooded the comments section to share their disappointment.

“This is a kosher, gluten-free, nut-free girl’s dream,” one user wrote. “Please don’t close. My favorite place.”

“This is truly one of my favorite restaurants!” another added. “I hope y’all reopen or launch a similar concept—the food has always been the best gluten-free dinner dining available!”

As sad as it is to see any beloved spot shutter, we can’t wait to see what this team dreams up next, especially given what they’ve already proven they can do at Thyme & Tonic.
