Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s sophomore novel about Jewish life on Long Island set to be adapted into a series for Apple TV+

After a highly publicized showdown, Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s upcoming novel, Long Island Compromise, scheduled for release on July 9, is set to be adapted into a television series by Apple.

The news should come as no surprise considering the success of Brodesser-Akner’s debut novel, Fleishman is in Trouble, which was turned into a mini-series featuring Claire Danes, Jessie Eisenberg, and Lizzy Caplan, among others, generating significant buzz in 2022. Brodesser-Akner herself took on the roles of creator and executive producer for the show on FX.

Following the triumph of her debut, Deadline reports that Long Island Compromise garnered attention from multiple studios, with bids reaching up to $1 million upfront, before the final deal was struck.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brodesser-Akner will once again take on the task of adapting her novel for the screen.

In terms of the plot, Long Island Compromise moves away from the Manhattan backdrop of “Fleishman is in Trouble” while still exploring the Jewish New York psyche, delving into the traditions and ethical boundaries that define the city’s culture.

The new book specifically examines the aftermath of the 1980s kidnapping and subsequent return of fictional family patriarch Carl Fletcher. Throughout the novel, readers will learn more about Jewish traditions while also discovering the circumstances that led to the family’s extreme wealth.
