Although we previously reported that dried fruits, candy and nuts chain Nuts Factory was selling a kosher version of the viral Dubai chocolate in New York, it was recently brought to our attention that is no longer the case (despite an employee going on the record about the specific locations offering the treat).
Alas, all is well that ends well: as first reported by Instagram account @KosherJunkie, ice cream shop The Boozery is officially the only purveyor of a kosher version of the kunafa chocolate, as the dessert was originally dubbed.
Certified By OK Kosher, the entire destination at 420 Troy Avenue in Brooklyn abides by the laws of kashrut, so we suggest you stock up on ice cream and sorbet while on premise as well.
Here, the treat is made with milk chocolate that is then filled with pistachio cream. It comes in two sizes: a smaller one for $10 a pop and a larger one for $30. Needless to say, we suggest indulging in the latter option. Go big or go home, right?
The shop offers pick-up and delivery services to certain parts of the borough, just place your order right here.
A bit of culinary history for those interested: the origins of the delicacy can be traced to Dubai confectionery FIX Dessert Chocolatier. The shop still produces the bars in a variety of different iterations, including the Mind Your Own Buiscoss (lotus cheesecake inside a white chocolate), the Can’t Get Knafeh of It-Hero (knafeh with pistacchio and tahini pasted inside milk chocolate) and the Cereously Chewsy (fudge brownies and cereal stuffed inside milk chocolate).
It’s been nearly impossible to find a kosher version of the dessert in town, especially one that stands up to the original iteration of the food. At the very least, The Boozery earns bonus points for trying.
