The Patis in Times Square has abruptly closed

Back in June, beloved chain Patis Bakery filed for Chapter 11, basically declaring bankruptcy.

As we explained back then, though, the news didn’t necessarily mean that the business was going to shutter but, rather, that owners were trying to reorganize and figure out a plan to repay creditors while maintaining operations.

Fast-forward to today and one of the company’s most popular addresses has suddenly shuttered. As of yesterday morning, the Patis at 740 8th Avenue by 46th Street in Times Square is no moreā€”and more shutdowns are likely coming.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports that the Brooklyn Patis on Avenue M in Midwood “began displaying a ‘for rent’ sign on Wednesday, suggesting that further closures could be on their way.”

According to the outlet, the Times Square location cost the company $62,000 a month in rent. Although, as seen in court records, rent on the Midwood store is much lower, $15,000 a month, Patis is obviously struggling.

Here is a list of Patis bakeries that are currently still open around New York:

  • Upper West Side: 676 Amsterdam Avenue near 93rd Street
  • Upper West Side: 2178 Broadway by 77th Street inside the Arthouse Hotel
  • Bryant Park: 44 West 37th Street by Fifth Avenue
  • Midwood: 1716 Avenue M
  • Crown Heights: 266 Kingston Avenue
  • Lawrence: 295 Burnside Avenue
