Although we’re in the thick of summer, book purveyors are clearly looking ahead, drawing attention to a new tome by Amanda Elliot dubbed Love You a Latke that is set to debut on October 8. The perfectly named book takes place between Vermont and New York City, backdrops to the flourishing love story between Abby and Seth.
According to an official synopsis, Abby is the owner of a café in Vermont and “the only Jewish business-owner on her town’s tourism board.”
Abby meets Seth when he walks into her shop one day and spreads “his incessantly positive attitude” that she, in true rom-com style, just cannot stand. Alas, the character finds herself in need of Seth when she’s tasked with planning a Hanukkah festival and realizes that “local vendors know nothing about the story of the holiday.”
“Desperate for support, Abby puts out a call for help online and discovers that she was wrong about being the only Jewish person within a hundred miles when Seth comes to her rescue,” reads the synopsis.
But it doesn’t end there: Seth himself asks Abby for help because his family, based in NYC, is expecting him to bring home a girlfriend when visiting over Hanukkah. Of course, Abby agrees to play along after Seth promises her to introduce her to the top food vendors in NYC, who will gladly help her set up a very successful festival.
The rest, as they say, is history—and probably makes for a very sweet and nice read when the book actually comes out in the fall (you can pre-order it right here).
Elliot is no stranger to “foodie” novels. In 2022’s Sadie on a Plate, the author tells the story of Seattle-based rising culinary star Sadie, whose dream is to introduce the public to her unique takes on traditional Jewish recipes recipes when landing a spot on her favorite TV show, Chef Supreme.
In Best Served Hot, released in 2023, “two restaurant critics learn their opposing tastes might make for a five-star relationship.”
Clearly, Elliot has a style—and we’re certainly here for it.
