Pop thousands of balloons before the Balloon Story exhibit closes at the Park Avenue Armory

Ballon Story—the massive exhibit that was first conceived and debuted in Israel last year—will soon conclude its run on this side of the Atlantic at the Park Avenue Armory. But, before officially closing on August 25, the organizers are hosting a massive balloon popping party, effectively inviting guests to pop all the art pieces on display.

On August 25 at 3:30pm, ticket holders (keep in mind that no kids under 5 years old are allowed in) will be asked to wear their safety gear before bursting the 600,000 inflatables that pepper the massive space. Snag passes to the awesome happening right here.

Perhaps, though, you’ll want to visit the venue a bit earlier to take in some of the most impressive sections of the show. From balloon versions of global landmarks—the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel tower, to name a few—to rooms filled with blown up animals, foods, figurines and more, the artistry involved in creating the exhibit as a whole is sure to leave you speechless and very much impressed.

The project’s transfer to New York was in large part the result of efforts by art director Kobi Kalimian and producer Yonatan Eizik.

Talking to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the two discuss how they were partly motivated by the atrocities of October 7 and “the struggle of artists to find gainful employment” when working on the show’s transfer to the U.S. In fact, Balloon Story New York relies on the work of 30 Israeli artists that functioned as team captains of sorts to bring together all other involved artists. According to the outlet, the exhibit has brought direct revenue into Israel.

With only a few days left in its run, Balloon Story remains one of the most striking shows of the summer season—one that will very soon burst into thin air… literally.
