A new Texas-style kosher smokehouse just opened in Queens

While Izzy’s Smokehouse remains the reigning champion of kosher BBQ in NYC, a little healthy competition can only elevate the scene. Enter Texas-style restaurant Chief Smokehouse, which has just recently opened at 180-10 Union Turnpike in Fresh Meadows, Queens.

Attempting to elevate the culinary form in a more traditional restaurant setting by offering creative menu takes on classic BBQ foods, Chief Smokehouse certainly has an eye for detail.

Some of the most popular items on offer include the brisket sandwich, served inside a homemade bun with egg, mozza, pickled sauce and fries; the meat lover, a 12-inch flatbread topped with mozza, pepperoni, pulled brisket, beef bacon, crispy onions and drenched in honey mustard; and the seemingly simple grilled chicken, served with a parve tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickled onions.

But there is so much more: corn ribs, empanadas bursting with smoked pulled beef and plenty of guacamole, the sort of burnt ends that not many kosher restarants can properly prepare, different type of tacos, burgers, sandwiches and meat boards.

Clearly not an appealing destination to vegetarian palates, Chief Smokehouse is, truly, a carnivore’s candy land.
