Nestled within Chabad Heights in Prospect Heights, at 664 Sterling Place, lies Maor Art Gallery—a relatively new space dedicated to giving emerging Jewish artists a free and supportive platform to showcase their works, hold meetings and amplify their voices in New York’s vibrant art scene.
The gallery was founded by Rabbi Ari Kirschenbaum, who transformed an entire floor of the center to bring this vision to life. The gallery hosts rotating exhibitions featuring different artists each month.
Srulick Ybgi serves as the gallery’s curator.

Speaking with COLlive.com when the space first opened late last year, Ybgi emphasized that artists are not charged to display their work.
“Instead, a small portion of the sales goes towards supporting our community projects and maintaining the gallery,” he explained.
Recently, the gallery held the first retrospective of Russian-born American artist Ben-Zion Weinman in 25 years. While Ben-Zion was already an established figure in the art world—a renowned Jewish painter, sculptor and poet—Kirschenbaum saw him as the ideal subject for an exhibition, even though the space typically showcases emerging artists. By featuring such a prominent name and displaying works from his extensive and famous estate, the founder hoped to attract larger crowds to the gallery.
More exhibitions are on the horizon, though official announcements about future programming have not yet been made. Each exhibition is free and open to the public, making it well worth the trip to Prospect Heights.
