Korean spicy tuna melt from Modern Bread and Bagel

It’s official: nobody does it better and more creatively than Modern Bread and Bagel. Every month, the gluten-free kosher spot drops a special that gets our taste buds buzzing before we’ve even taken a bite, and this month’s savory creation might just be its most eclectic yet. Honestly, it doesn’t even sound kosher, which is exactly why we’re so intrigued.

Now through the end of the month at all of the shop’s locations, you can order the Korean tuna melt, made with albacore tuna, gochujang sauce, avocado mayo, toasted sesame seeds, smoked gouda, marinated ginger and scallions, all served on rustic bread with a side of salted kaffir lime chips. The chips alone are worth the order, if you ask us. At $18, the sandwich also makes for a pretty ideal lunch splurge.

We’d also be remiss not to mention Modern Bread and Bagel’s elite social media game. A quick scroll through the business’ feed is enough to have you saving every other post for future lunch inspiration the next time you’re in Manhattan.

Judging by the comments, we’re not alone in our clearly over-the-top excitement.

“This sounds like a great addition,” one person wrote beneath a photo of the tuna melt. “Can’t wait to try. Keep the great variety coming.”

“[It] needs to be permanent!” another commenter declared. “It’s too good.”

If this Korean Tuna Melt is anything like the shop’s previous monthly drops (kosher French toast bagel! The special Greenlight open-faced sandwich!), don’t be surprised if customers spend the next few weeks campaigning to keep it on the menu for good. And can you blame them?
