Yakar, the upscale kosher steakhouse on Coney Island Avenue, has come up with a promotion that turns the least exciting moment of a restaurant outing, the arrival of the check, into the most thrilling one.

The promotion is called the Yakar Roll, and the premise is simple: before the bill hits the table, you roll a die.

If you land on “Ya Won,” your entire subtotal is on the house. The dry-aged ribeye! The meat boat! The first and second rounds of cocktails! If you land on “Yakar,” though, you’re paying just like everyone else who showed up to dinner that night.

Each table gets one roll per visit, and we can’t promise the promotion won’t become a little addictive. In fact, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself wanting to come back and test your luck more than once.

Half the fun of a deal like this is imagining how it plays out across the dining room. Picture the couple two tables over erupting in celebration after winning back a $300 dinner while you sit there, having rolled the wrong way, quietly making peace with your decision to order the wagyu. Then again, maybe you start convincing yourself that another reservation tomorrow night is a perfectly rational financial decision. After all, if you eventually win, didn’t you basically pay for two meals only once?

A few things to keep in mind before you start ordering like you’ve already won: the promotion covers the subtotal, which means you’ll still be responsible for tax and tip. The odds also aren’t posted anywhere, so don’t walk in assuming it’s a 50-50 shot. And, as with any restaurant promotion, it’s always worth calling ahead to confirm the details before your visit.

May the dice be ever in your favor.
