Rothschild TLV bar

If you’re not on the Upper East Side today, you’re going to want to make your way up there: kosher restaurant Rothschild TLV is giving out free drinks to everyone 21 and older in honor of Purim. No purchase required. Yes, really. Get there.

The eatery ran the same promotion last year, much to the delight of neighborhood folks who kicked off their Purim night of debauchery there before heading to a costume party somewhere downtown (or, perhaps, deciding to make a full night of it right at the bar).

The Lexington Avenue spot has even more reason to celebrate this year: executive chef Guy Kairi just expanded his footprint in the neighborhood, launching two new delivery- and pick-up-only concepts out of the Rothschild kitchen last week. Kairi Sushi and Shmash NYC—each operating as a separate business with its own distinct menu and identity—are now dishing out, respectively, creative sushi options and smash burger standouts throughout NYC via Uber Eats and DoorDash.

Suddenly, our Purim game plan feels crystal clear: order delivery for lunch from Kairi or Shmash, snack on one of the best kosher hamantaschens in NYC, swing by Rothschild TLV for a free drink and then head out into the night. After all, Purim is the holiday where an ancient Persian plot gets overturned at the last minute—so celebrating in 2026, with headlines about modern-day Persia swirling through the news cycle, feels oddly on theme.
