Turns out that some of the best kosher pizza in NYC is currently being dished out by Ouri’s, a beloved Upper East Side kosher supermarket that has earned itself the nickname of “kosher Erewhon” (for the uninitiated: Erewhon is a cult-favorite, ultra-premium grocery store in Los Angeles known for its wellness-forward, influencer-loved offerings)—a fitting comparison given the sheer variety of creative, health-leaning prepared foods lining Ouri’s shelves and counters.

Ouri’s started serving its sourdough pizza right before Passover, and the masses started to notice immediately, as proven by the slew of social media posts depicting the pies and slices on offer.

The menu is relatively contained, but still delivers on creativity, which works in its favor: pies are crafted with the attention they deserve and diners aren’t overwhelmed by endless options. There’s a classic made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, Muenster and pecorino cheeses, plus Parmesan, basil and olive oil, alongside five more inventive takes: tomato salsa verde, spicy vodka, cacio e pepe, zucchini hot honey and lemon mushroom. Slices run between $4 and $5, while whole pies range from $28 to $36; you can add burrata to a slice for $2 or upgrade the entire pie for $12.

Whether you’re mid-shop and suddenly can’t ignore the smell wafting from the counter, in need of a quick pick-me-up, heading there with the express purpose of eating some pizza, the slices at Ouri’s land in that rare category of being both genuinely good and very reasonably priced. Pro tip: the handful of seats outside have quietly turned into a makeshift meeting spot for Jewish New Yorkers across the city, so take your slice out there and join the scene. You might even meet someone special.
